We’re excited to have you as a guest on the show and to share your knowledge with our audience. We have put together a guide on how to get a good recording, some technical requirements, and an outline of how we conduct guest episodes.
PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO ENSURE WE HAVE THE BEST RECORDING SESSION POSSIBLE
After reading, please respond to the form below.
Record your best audio and video
We want our guests to sound as good as possible. If you have a quality microphone and headphones, great! If not, here are some things you can still do to make your audio sound good.
Headphones are a must (Earbuds are ok, too.)
If possible, avoid bluetooth. Wired headphones are always best.Find a quiet place
Background noise and distractions can ruin a recording. Find a quiet room with no music and turn off your AC or fan while recording.Clean up and avoid lights behind you
We publish video versions of our interviews, so do your best to record in a spot that looks nice and your face isn’t in shadow.Soft Rooms are Best
Echo is impossible to remove from recordings so it’s best if you can be in a room with lots of soft, heavy things that absorb sound (carpeting, beds, couches, books).
Fun tip: Jase sometimes stacks couch cushions on his desk to limit echo.Make sure you have enough hard drive space
Ideally you should have at least 5 GB free of space on your hard drive so that you have no issues recording on Riverside.
Joining the Meeting and Recording Audio
We record our show over video chat so we can all see each other’s faces. We also use a website to record your audio. You will need to use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (no Safari).
Technical requirements
Reliable Internet Connection
If you can reliably watch Netflix without problems you’re probably fine.Note: Online games can quickly use up an entire house’s internet connection unless you have top of the line service. Please make sure nobody in your house is playing an online game during our call.Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge only
The site we use for recording requires Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Please make sure you have that installed.
Riverside
We use a site called Riverside for our video calls because it can record high quality audio and video of each participant, rather than the low-quality you get on a normal video call.
We will send you a Riverside link that you will use to join the call. You don’t need to create an account, you will just be asked for your name. Riverside only works in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers on Windows or Mac. (Please let us know right away if you only have a Chromebook because it will not work.)
Interview Format
We will have a brief pre-interview chat before we actually start so no pressure to be “on” right away. This is a chance for us to make sure everything is set up properly, get to know you a little bit and for you to ask any specific questions you might have before we get started.
The actual interview lasts for about an hour. By joining us on the show, you are consenting to being recorded and your voice and likeness being used in promotional materials for the podcast.
